Part Two: 4 Valuable Benefits of Email Marketing for Small Businesses

In the first post in this series, we showed you the Importance of Email Marketing for Small Businesses.

Possibly you lost the next twenty minutes or so wishing for a week of vacation in the islands as a result (our bad).

Now we’ll show you four tremendous benefits you’ll gain if you put the power of email marketing to work for your brand.

1. Skyrocket Your Sales

The average user on the internet has to be exposed to your product/service at least 7 times before they will make a purchasing decision.

Using email marketing enables you to send a sequence of messages (known as an autoresponder series) to the folks on your list, educating and informing them about the solutions you provide. It also allows you to build a relationship with your subscribers.

Once you’ve gained the trust of your prospects, selling becomes an easier and much more natural process…and more often that not, will result in an exponential increase in your overall profits.

2. Boost Your Average Order Value

For most small businesses, email marketing represents a fantastic way of up-selling customers, and often this will give you the opportunity to add up to 25% – 40% to your average order.

For example, let’s say you sell a carpet cleaning service. In addition to keeping your subscribers informed about the latest updates on this particular service, you can also email them about any other services you provide (such as a laundry or house cleaning service, etc). You can even work with other product providers, offering your list related products outside your own line for an agreed-upon “affiliate” fee from the owner of the outside items.

Not only are you saving your subscribers time (and vetting products on their behalf), your earnings will also get a healthy boost.

3. Obtain Valuable Customer Feedback

It’s much easier to obtain honest and productive feedback about your business via email, since it’s a faceless form of communication and subscribers are likely to feel more comfortable sharing their opinions with you.

If you shoot a quick email (or simply add a few lines to the bottom of one of your regular e-newsletters) asking for their input on particular aspects of your products/services, you may be pleasantly surprised by the valuable responses you’ll receive.

4. Gain Repeat Business

There’s little better than having a life-long customer…one that will purchase from you over and over again. What’s more, loyal customers are happy to spread the word about your business amongst family and friends,  resulting in even more sales for you!

Since it costs more to gain a new customer than it does to retain one, it’s a smart idea to make use of email marketing to keep your existing customer base. And maintaining regular contact with buyers after they’ve made a purchase is a great way to generate repeat business.

For instance, you may offer them a discount on anything that you feel might complement what they’ve already purchased from you. Let’s assume you sell radio DJ equipment and a guy named Rob arrives at your site and places an order for a turntable. Why not send him an email a week later offering a special deal on an audio series ‘How to become the No.1 DJ in town?’ If Rob is truly interested in honing his skills as a DJ, then there’s a good chance he will jump on your offer.

One-time purchases are great, but repeat business is awesome.
